This avalanche safety course is designed to provide basic level avalanche safety information using the “Know Before You Go” curriculum developed by the Utah Avalanche Center. The program provides a resource for backcountry users who spend time in avalanche terrain and a tool for annual review by the experienced winter backcountry user.

At the conclusion of this program, students should be able to understand basic avalanche safety, including the key principles of “Know Before You Go:”

  • Get the Gear
  • Get the Training
  • Get the Forecast
  • Get the Picture
  • Get out of Harm’s Way

To achieve the Certificate  of Completion, participants must review each of the Lessons, complete a Quiz after each lesson, and score 80% or better on the Final Exam.
